July 18 StixWe ate Japanese last night and it was delicious. I had scallops and chicken and Dennis got scallops and steak. We ate at Stix which is one of those places where you sit at a table for 10 surrounding the chef. The chef is trained in all kinds of antics and tries to keep the diners laughing. We sat with two groups of 4. The group to our left was 2 couples in their thirties. They had a lot to talk about and did not acknowledge anyone else at the table really. The group to our right was a birthday party and these girls were in a good mood. Of course, since they seemed to all be single girls they got the most attention and it was hilarious. As part of the routine, the chef always tosses some shrimp to each diner and you are SUPPOSE to catch it in your mouth. Somehow.....(yeah, like we don't really know HOW it could happen...) the chef kept missing their mouths and expertly dropping it right down their cleavage! Many giggles later (after he helpfully suggested he would retreive it for them), he proceeded to toss to the men at the table. He made two of them look silly and then threw one to Dennis. While Dennis was chewing, he threw another, and then another, and then.....another. D finally got him stopped so he could chew and swallow before he choked. He then turned to me. While he prepared his windup, I deftly pulled the front of my high-necked shirt away from my body to give him a better shot. After he finished laughing, he tossed it to my mouth. :) July 14 I love being a grandma! They keep telling me to decide what I want to be called... and yet they don't like what I choose! My grand-niece calls me Ninny so I thought that would be good to go with. Of course I know about the stigmas that go with that word... but I don't care. I know I'm smart and I know I'm not a boob, so if my niece names me that ... its as good as ANY. I also tried Granny. Thats what I called my grandmama, well, sometimes I called her grandmama! But that got laughs too. Oh well. Maybe Chloe will decide and I won't have to. ![]() ![]() April 29 Moral SupportMoving away from home at the young age of 19, you'd think I'd be used to it. And generally speaking, I am. However, there are times when you need your family. And this is one of those times. The advantages far outweighed the disadvantages. And I am very glad we did it the way we did. And I would do it all over again, the exact same way. I am speaking of our wedding in the Bahamas. Just us. The sand, the sun, Dennis and me and the preacher... and the photographer... the DJ.. and the wedding planner...and all the vacationers watching. It's been 11 months now and for several weeks I have been contemplating having an anniversary party. It would be fun and a good way to include all those lovely friends and family (fingers crossed) that did not get to be with us last year on the happy occasion. I have all kinds of plans in head... and fear in my heart. I just cannot physically go through with it by myself. It's not that I can't do the work necessary. I can and I'd love doing it... in fact that would be the most fun (and really I would not even want someone else doing it) ... making sweet little decorations and stringing lights and decorating a cake and making finger foods.... oh the planning and crafting would be FUN!! Its the mental anguish I can't handle. I remember so many occasions in the past when I'd agree to do something that someone asked me to do and then agonize over it for days until it actually took place and then I'd really (mostly) enjoy it. But it was days of stress. And in this case I'd be bringing it on myself. But I also know I'll regret not doing it. April 24 Time flies...February 24 Let's see....whats new????

my expected grand niece/nephew, end of June 2009 October 14 Erie CourtOctober 13 RentalThe renters are moving in today. It is such a relief to get one thing crossed off the list. I guess we have to wait until after lunch today to cross it off, because we still have to get the refridge moved in for them.
DJG doesn't usually provide appliances...just one more thing to tear up and need repair. But this family is starting over after a fire and the insurance company asked him if he would. So, after much consideration and days of decision making we went to Lowes yesterday (um...don't tell Home Depot) and purchased ourselves a new refrigerator and are moving my old one to the rental house. I had a side by side but it is about 12 years old or more so we got new "scratch and dent" model. It is a white french door side by side. The freezer is at the bottom and it is a large drawer with a smaller drawer inside on top. The side by side doors are great because there is nothing in the middle and you can fit pizzas or cakes or party trays...something that was soooooo frustrating about my old one!
Getting this one rented also has spurred DJG on and he is ready to get the first one we started ready to rent too. All it needs is a new pedestal sink and toilet in the bathroom, popcorn paint the ceilings, replace some trim work, and paint the outside. October 05 Before and AfterSeptember 04 surgery updateEverything is great!
I took out the catheter this morning and all is functioning well. And I feel fine.
Yippee! September 03 Feelin GroovyAfter talking with my doctor last summer I had decided nearly a year ago that I wanted to have something done about my slight bladder leakage problem. Then this summer it got to became a little worse and I really grew sick of it. Its been a problem for a while now...you know...sneezing, coughing, but when laughter and dancing had to be added to the list that was just too much. But I knew I had my yearly visit coming up in a couple of months so I just waited till then.
I had a sling put under the ureath today. And so far I feel great. Yesterday afternoon/evening was by far the worst of it. All that stuff to clean you out is MISERABLE!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the worst is passed. August 22 1st Painting experienceAugust 17 UpdateWe just got back from a conference at Orange Beach. I must say, if you have to work, thats the way to do it!! You can't ask for better working conditions. Now, I gotta wash a lot of clothes and get back to the normal.
The 6 houses situation is starting to look a little less bleak. The rental that was most recently vacated has sparked alot of interest. We plan to sell it (and my house also at some point). We had 3 interested people contact us yesterday. It is in a very good location and is quite cute, so maybe soon we will be one house less.
I have wanted to take art lessons for a very long time. DJG even purchased supplies for me 2 christmas' ago, which I have never used. I could not find any classes nearby and just had not bit the bullet to drive into Birmingham. However....my beautician told me of a very interesting thing going on right now...its called "Sips and Strokes." It is a one night group painting class. People are using it for their girls night out and such. Anyway, they post online what picture will be painted on each night of the month, so you choose what you want to paint and sign up for that nights class. When you leave, you supposedly have a piece of art to take home with you. I was trying to decide which night to sign up for when I mentioned hating to have to go the first time by myself. Then my sweet husband volunteered to go with me. Told me not to be mad if his turned out better than mine though! Tomorrows the day.
Daughter #1 and I just could not get our schedules coordinated, but I wanted to go shopping with her for maternity clothes. I do remember being jealous of nicely dressed pregnant women. So once again, the internet brought us together for a very successful shopping expedition! She got one dress, 2 pairs of capris, a pair of black and a pair of khaki pants, and 4 or 5 shirts. That was fun.
