April 18 Mr. and Mrs. DJGWhat I thought was a supply buying trip to Home Depot, turned out to be a romantic proposal of marriage....see...it started like this...
I had asked DJG if I could use his truck to get some gardening supplies the weekend before but he had it loaded down with stuff, so on Sunday, April 6, when I asked him if his truck was available, he said yes, but that he would take me to Home Depot because of where it was located and the reliability of the truck and tires.
When we got there I looked through the garden section first and then we went inside to puchase some house supplies. When we finished, we headed back outside to get the manure and compost I needed. As we passed the patio furniture, DJG stopped and walked over to a canopy that was set up over a patio set and sat down on the settee. He then struck up a conversation about how pretty it was, and did I like it, and did I think it would fit on my deck....blah blah blah.
I did not have time for such a waste of time (I knew he wasn't going to buy it and I didn't need it) and was just about to tell him so, when it occurred to me that it was VERY STRANGE for him to sit down abruptly like that, that maybe he wasn't feeling well, that he had just had a heart attack less than 2 months ago... I became very concerned and asked him if he was ok. He assurred me that he was and insisted that I sit down with him.
Now I was really a bit irratated that he was wasting my "garden planting time" and again was just about to say so, when he very seriously said:
"This may not be the most romantic thing I've ever done, but I don't want to keep putting it off. You keep making plans for your house, and I am always making plans for my house, and I think we should be making our plans together. Will you marry me?"
I was stunned to say the least. When I found my tongue, I asked if he was serious. He replied "Yes, don't I sound serious??? I'll even get down on my knees." And he did. On his knees, in Home Depot, in the patio furniture section, he slipped a ring on my finger.
Still not really quite sure he wasn't making a joke, I said, "But we are in Home Depot." He said I know, I'll do it again later somewhere more romantic, but I didn't want to keep putting it off.
I guess my face showed I was still in shock and he then asked "Well, are you going to answer me??"
I gave him a hug as a few tears escaped down my cheeks and accepted.
